Rimi Riga Marathon: Traffic Restrictions in Riga on May 16–17

Riga will host the Rimi Riga Marathon on May 16–17, bringing more than 43,000 runners from 110 countries to the city. Because of the event, residents and visitors should expect major traffic restrictions across central Riga and nearby routes.
The first restrictions begin on Friday, May 15 at 20:00, when traffic will be closed on 11. novembra krastmala from Akmens Bridge to Muitas Street. This closure will remain in place until Monday, May 18 at 06:00. The nearby Old Riga-side parallel street from Poļu gāte to Jauniela will also be closed during the same period.
On Saturday, May 16, restrictions will affect the Children’s Day and DPD Mile Run events. On Sunday, May 17, the biggest disruptions are expected during the marathon, half-marathon, 10 km, and 6 km races, with closures in the city centre, on bridges, and along several race routes.
Parking will also be limited in affected areas, especially around 11. novembra krastmala and Kaļķu Street. Vehicles left in restricted zones may be moved if necessary.
Public transport is recommended throughout the weekend. Marathon participants with a valid start number can use Riga public transport for free on May 16 and 17.
Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, check the official traffic restriction map, and use navigation apps such as Waze for updated route information.
